ALFALFA

The Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA Survey

  • ALFALFA Spring Semester 2010: Completed Observations
  • Observations in the R.A. range from 07h30m to 16h30m in the first survey years focused on the tiles centered at +02, +06, +10 and +14 degrees; this region is now fully ompleted. Some of these data have been included in data releases 1 and 3, and others are in the works; see the links to Publications and Data above.

We had hoped to complete observations of the full ALFALFA spring sky region in 2010, but alas, due to platform maintenance and the resultant restriction of the zenith angle of the Gregorian some, we didn't make it. However, we were able to adapt our program to cover the zenith crossing strip (zenith at 18deg20min).

As of May 2010, we have completely covered the targeted region south of Dec=+32 deg except for the edges in R.A. because of the restricted LST coverage we are receiving as of Feb 2009. Starting in Feb 2009, our spring region is being restricted to 09h to 15h30m because of the time allocation conflict with AUDS.

In 2011 then, we will need to complete coverage in the final northernmose tile from +32 < Dec < +36 deg.

The graphical summaries below indicate the A2010 coverage up to and including the spring 2009 observing season.

Yellow indicates planned observations in pass 1.
Green indicates completed observations in pass 1.
Gold indicates planned observations in pass 2.
Cyan indicates completed observations in pass 2.
Brown indicates poor quality data (hardware failure, gain instability or unusual rfi)
Pink indicates the area to be covered next (may be started but not completed this year)
