ALFALFA

The Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA Survey

  • ALFALFA Spring Semester 2011: Completing ALFALFA-spring!
  • Observations of the "spring sky" region for this season began in December 2010 and were completed on April 19, 2011. This completes the ALFALFA survey in the spring sky.

The spring2011 observations covered the northernmost zone, +32 < Dec < +36 deg. Until Feb 2011, the movement of the Gregorian dome is restricted to Z.A. < 16deg so the observing didn't really pick up in earnest until Feb.

While the ALFALFA target region is extends over the full R.A. range from 07h30m to 16h30m, coverage in 2009 was restricted to 09h to 15h30m because of conflict with another program. That limit was lifted in 2010 (because ALFALFA was the only program that ran during the telescope maintenance period), but it was reimposed in 2011.

Some of these data have been included in data releases 1 and 3, and others are in the works; see the links to Publications and Data above.

The graphical summaries below indicate the final A2010 coverage of the spring (Virgo direction) region.

Yellow indicates planned observations in pass 1.
Green indicates completed observations in pass 1.
Gold indicates planned observations in pass 2.
Cyan indicates completed observations in pass 2.
Brown indicates poor quality data (hardware failure, gain instability or unusual rfi)
Pink indicates the area to be covered next (may be started but not completed this year)
