ALFALFA

The Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA Survey

  • ALFALFA Fall Semester 2009: Planned and Current Observations
  • We started the "fall" season on August 14, 2009. Our first priority for the fall will be to acquire the ALFALFA data needed by the U. North Carolina RESOLVE survey group lead by Sheila Kannappan, namely the +2 degree tile. Our priority objective for Fall 2009 is to complete the full ALFALFA fall coverage south of +16 degrees. However,....the bad news for 2009 is that ALFA will be taken down for servicing (to deal with the compression issue which hampers GALFACTS) on September 14th and will not be available again until early November. We may still achieve our priority objective but we're not yet sure we'll make it. Certainly, we will not get as much time as we had hoped for, and that means another delay for our fall coverage. (:

Several ALFALFA datasets are complete and have been published; see the links to Publications and Data above.

The graphical summaries below indicate the A2010 coverage up to and including the fall 2009 observing season. We try to update them regularly, so they include what's currently scheduled (and therefore may or may not happen).

Yellow indicates planned observations in pass 1.
Green indicates completed observations in pass 1.
Gold indicates planned observations in pass 2.
Cyan indicates completed observations in pass 2.
Brown indicates poor quality data (hardware failure, gain instability or unusual rfi)
Pink indicates the area to be covered next
