Dark and Dusty Galaxies:
Galaxy Surveys with Really Gigantic (RG) Telescopes

October 13-14, 2006     Cornell University

A Symposium in Celebration of the 60th Birthday of Riccardo Giovanelli

Atomic matter collapses within dark matter halos to form galaxies. Does it always form stars? How often is the light of the stars dimmed by dusty envelopes? Is the galaxy formation process still ongoing at the present epoch? Do totally "dark" galaxies exist? This symposium will focus on how major galaxy surveys at radio, millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths, including the ALFALFA survey underway at Arecibo and those being planned for the future Cornell-Caltech Atacama Telescope (CCAT), will shed light on some of the hidden mysteries of the galaxy formation process.

Scientific Organizing Committee:
Bob Brown, Martha Haynes, Gordon Stacey and Yervant Terzian.
