The Latest Science Results from Radio Telescopes Outfitted with Phased Array Feeds
Nickolas Pingel (Australian National University)
I will provide a status update on the commissioning and early science results of several surveys being performed with the Australian Square Kilometer Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and the Green Bank Telescope (GBT), two of the world’s major radio telescopes currently utilizing Phased Array Feed (PAF) technology. Radio telescopes outfitted with PAF receivers are capable of forming multiple simultaneous beams on the sky, substantially increasing the field-of-view to, in turn, decrease the necessary survey times for both transient and spectral line surveys. On the ASKAP side, I will present initial results a high-resolution survey of HI and OH within the Galactic Plane and Magellanic system entitled the Galactic ASKAP (GASKAP) survey. I also will summarize a recent blind survey for pulsars and transients and deep HI observations of several external galaxies performed with the Focal L-Band Array for the GBT (FLAG) receiver.
