Exercises related to the ALFALFA January 2008 observing
Review the
memo on ALFA beam rotation.
Our target drift for the ALFALFA workshop is
+26d02'12"; therefore, the central beam
(designated Beam "0") is the one
which is set to declination of +26d02'12".
We will observe the drift from 0030 - 0700 AST, i.e., midnight
to 7am Arecibo time, on 14 Jan, 2008.
- List the resultant seven declinations covered by
the seven beams, in order, from south to north. What is the resultant
declination range?
- What is the range in local sidereal time (LST)? This is
approximately the right ascension range that we will cover.
- What is the zenith angle of this drift as observed with ALFA beam
0?
- At what azimuth will we orient the azimuth arm so that ALFA
can observe this declination strip?
- Use the links to the Cornell HI archive, NED Advanced All Sky Survey, and Goldmine on the Observing Proposal page to search for possible sources within the ra and dec range.
